Dynamic components are expressly for use in Log Column data bands on the Log Body band.  These components scale and position themselves during render based on expressions in the Top Depth (and Base Depth, if applicable) expressions.

Where both Top Depth and Base Depth expressions are present there is a Plot As Range option to constrain component placement.

Additionally, Variable Width expressions are available on many of the dynamic components.  These expressions allow the component to scale itself horizontally.
