Before starting to assign materials it's important to make sure that the correct material list is selected.
There are three material lists that can be used to characterize a model:
•Material - a project specific list that users can easily create and edit materials, but cannot be used when data from other projects is included (i.e. linked projects)
•MaterialX - typically set-up as a generic material list can be is used by multiple projects, but only selected users can create and edit materials in this list
•MaterialXX - typically used as a geological formation list can be is used by multiple projects, but only selected users can create and edit materials in this list
When a model is created MaterialXX is set as the default.
Change this in the database settings:
Once this is changed, refresh the database to apply the changes to the model.
After the refresh, if there is more than one Core layer present or surfaces have been generated, there is likely already materials assigned in this column. Check if data is safe to overwrite before proceeding.
Finally, review the materials in the list. If more might be required check that you have the ability to add new records. Alternatively, change to the Material list and define a project specific list.
