Material assignment is the process of assigning a material to geological layers of similar material type and / or properties.
The way that materials are assigned effects the generation of surfaces, as covered in the understanding section.
Assigns the selected geology entities to the selected material. |
|
Opens the lookup editor for the selected material list. |
|
Updates the list of materials from the database. |
Spend some time to configure the environment to make the assignment easier.
1.Switch to 3D
2.Change to a side-on view
3.Change to orthographic projection
4.Hide all layers except Core - Unassigned
5.Adjust the vertical exaggeration (if required)
6.Adjust the core radius and refresh (if required)
Look for similar material types (i.e. clay/silt, sand, gravel). Do not attempt to group thin layers in the first pass. |
Chose the Selection (left-hand side) and tool drag the tool over similar core entities to select them:
Database records will be updated and a new layer named Core - [material] will be added to the model. |
Change the visibility on the new layer to hide layers that have already been assigned. |
Repeat this until all core entities have been assigned to a material:
Refresh the database to generate surfaces based on the material assignments:
Turn on other data layers (i.e. CPT, SPT) and refine the material assignments:
